TOGETHER WE MOVE

HELP OTHERS TO MOVE MORE

Whether you’re an occasional walker, a weekend cyclist or an avid runner, we want you to ask yourself one question:

“Who can I help to move more?”

ABOUT

SO WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?

DO YOU CARE?

Around 25% of people move less than 30 minutes a week, which has huge implications for their physical health and wellbeing.

WHO WILL YOU HELP?

We want you to ask yourself who can you help to inspire to move more and how will you go about it?

SUPPORT & ENCOURAGE

They’re going to need your support and encouragement. It’s not going to be easy. Take it slow and make it fun.

PLEDGE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Please take a moment to pledge your support and to let us know how you will help a less active member of the community to move more.

What is Together We Move?

Around 25% of people move less than 30 minutes a week, which has huge implications for their physical health and wellbeing.

The Together We Move campaign is here to promote the benefits of activity by inspiring local people to get together with less active members of their communities, so we all move more.

What are we asking you to do?

Whether you’re an occasional walker, a weekend cyclist or an avid runner, we want you to ask yourself one question: “Who can I help to move more?”

Then we want you to pledge to inspire someone to get moving. They’re going to need your support and encouragement. It’s not going to be easy, but take it slow and make it fun.

Let’s create a movement together!

YOU CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN

INSPIRE

Nagging your friends or family to exercise isn’t likely to be beneficial. Try focusing on your own behaviour and wait to see whether this encourages them to do the same. Believe it or not, simply being a good role model can have a big impact on the behaviour of those around us.

ENCOURAGE

Use a little bit of gentle encouragement, a little positive nudging will usually get you further than demanding. Invite your friends on an after-work walk, not only as a healthy activity but also as a way to connect and spend time catching up.

SUPPORT

Once they’ve agreed to do some sort of exercise, make sure you continue to support them. This could be going to a favourite class with them for the first time or helping them to find something which they love doing.

REAL-LIFE STORIES

Clare is a busy mum-of-two who wants to encourage others to live an active lifestyle – after a persuasive friend transformed her life and the life of her whole family.

Clare Waterfall-Hallam, said: “I was approaching 40 and I was quite overweight, and I wasn’t active, and my eating slipped with it. I felt old and unattractive.

“I had two friends who were quite instrumental in helping me turn my lifestyle around. It took one of those very persuasive friends to insist that I go for a walk with her, and she helped me realise that the obstacles I had were in my head.

“I changed my diet and my exercise and now I look and feel younger. I feel more enthusiastic, I have more energy, and I’m in a better frame of mind mentally too.

“Becoming healthier has had a knock-on effect with so many things. Me and the kids have made so many friends through our sports activities and it’s added to our lives in so many ways.

“I pledge to get some of my inactive friends active by supporting them in taking the first steps towards a more active lifestyle – and I would encourage others to do the same! I want other people to be aware that they can transform their life for the better.”
